本书收集了约2000个易错易混淆的单词与词组，分成423组。所选用词语大都为最常用常考的单词及词组。编者希望通过对这些近义词语的比较、辨析及训练，能帮助中学生掌握它们的确切含义，主要差别及其关键用法，以期解决中学生在学习词语过程中遇到的难点和疑点。
本书有些內容不局限于词语本身而涉及到语法、句型、结构等的语法现象，从含义和用法等方面集中讨论近义词语的差别。有一些是学生急需了解，但在一般词典与语法书上难以找到的內

本书分三大部分。第一部分为前言，简要阐述英语近义词语辨析的特点和要求。第二部分为
英语近义词语辨析，共分五章，分别为名词；动词；动词词组；形容词、副词及其短语；介词、介词短语和连词。每一章中所有条目都按第1个词语的首字母顺序编排。每个Stcp含有l。组词语，并配有练习。每一章结束，也配有1组练习，共50道题目。第三部分综合训练与提高，配4套测试卷，每套100题，以供读者训练之用。
